Job description

At Kirklees we want to be innovative and creative in the way we work with partners and communities to deliver our services. We know we have challenging times ahead so we are always looking for better and smarter ways to work.

A number of exciting opportunities have arisen within the Kirklees Youth Offending Team (YOT) and we are currently looking to employ 1.5 x FTE Social Work qualified staff and 2 x YOT Officers (unqualified posts).

The roles will be based within the Kirklees Youth Offending Team Service, where you will be part of an experienced and supportive team providing high quality and effective youth justice services across Kirklees.

The roles can be extremely varied and you will be expected to carry out a number of duties and respond flexibly to varying levels of demand and differing responsibilities.

You will contribute towards the delivery of the Kirklees Youth Justice Plan which brings together partner agencies to tackle shared issues such as reducing crime / the impact and fear of crime on the public and communities. The service provides clearly focused targeted interventions to take place within a context of integrated assessment and service provision.

In recognition of its high quality restorative justice interventions with young people. Kirklees Youth Offending Team has been awarded the Restorative Service Quality Mark (RSQM) by the Restorative Justice Council, all employees are expected to practice within these standards.

You will work with young people who are involved in the criminal justice system. You will be actively involved in specific cases to which you have been assigned where young people have committed offences or are at risk of offending.

You will have:

  • Experience and enthusiasm of working with, and the ability to relate to young people who have offended and their families;
  • An understanding and commitment to working with young people within their community;
  • Knowledge of the legislation governing young people (Children Act and Criminal Justice Act);
  • The ability to assess the needs of young people and plan, work to and review appropriate programmes of work in response to identified issues;
  • A willingness to undergo training and work unsocial hours to meet the needs of the Service.
  • Hold a HCPC recognised professional Social Work qualification and be registered with the HCPC (for Social Work posts).

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time. It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car.

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this job. Please note that a conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

In order to be short-listed for this job you will need to demonstrate how you meet the Competencies as detailed on the Job Description. CV’s will not be accepted.

For more information or to have an informal discussion about any of these roles please call 01484 221000 and ask for Sandra Robinson, Clive Phillips or Andy Gresswell.
