Social Work Events Reflective Practice and Self Care

Yorkshire Urban and Rural Teaching Partnership Logo

This lunchtime learning seminar brought to you by Yorkshire and Rural Teaching Partnership and University of York promotes communication and knowledge sharing between academics and social work and social care professionals.

This lunchtime seminar will provide the opportunity to reflect on both your personal and professional self-care, discuss the role of organisations in promoting self-care and celebrating achievement in the workplace.  We will also introduce ‘Schwartz Rounds’, a group reflective forum for discussing the emotional impact of our work.  Attendance will provide evidence of Peer Reflection for your Social Work England CPD record.

Facilitator

Ed Robson has been a lecturer in Social Work at the University of York since 2014.  Prior to this he worked in a range of social work areas, including mental health, homelessness and teenage pregnancy.  He has a keen interest in enhancing students learning and improving service user involvement in service provision.

Polly Sykes has been a lecturer in Social Work at the University of York since 2013.   She spent most of her social work career working with children and adults who have physical and learning needs.  Social work in this field primarily involves direct work with individuals, but also requires work with wider society to address social structures and influences in order to improve life experience. Having seen the challenges faced by those she worked with, Polly is I am enthusiastic about the need for social justice and equality.
